Using Sunflare
Appearance
Make Sunflare look the way you like: the background behind everything, your accent color, how messages are laid out, fonts, colors, and saved presets you can switch between in one click.

Changes apply instantly so you can see them as you go. Appearance settings follow your account to every device you sign in on, except where a setting says "Saved on this device only".
Background#
The backdrop behind the whole app. Choose from:
- Deepspace (the default): near-black with a purple glow at the top left and an orange one at the top right.
- Sunset, Ocean, Forest, Midnight, Aurora, Rose, and Amber: other gradient backgrounds.
- Light: a light theme for bright rooms.
- Custom: build your own gradient. Add as many colors as you like with + Add color, and set its Angle.
Custom, colors #0b1020 and #2a0f2e, angle 135°: a dark navy-to-plum diagonal that's easy on the eyes at night.
Panel Transparency#
How much of the gradient shows through the sidebar and panels, from 0% to 100%. Only has an effect with a gradient background, not Light.
Accent color#
The color used for buttons, highlights, the active channel marker, and your own message bubbles. Choose Orange (the default), Blue, Gold, Green, Mono, Pink, Purple, Red, or Teal, or Custom to make an accent gradient from your own colors.
Message display#
- Cozy
- Larger avatars and more breathing room between messages. The default.
- Compact
- Smaller avatars and tighter spacing, so more messages fit on screen. Good for busy servers.
Three toggles shape how messages look:
- Message bubbles
- Rounded chat bubbles around each message. Turn off for a flatter, plain layout.
- Mirror my own messages
- Your messages sit on the right, like a texting app. Turn off to keep everyone's messages left-aligned.
- Anti-aliased text
- Smooths text edges. Turning it off can look sharper on some displays and jagged on others; try both.
Message colors#
- Your Message Color
- The color of your own bubbles. By default they use your accent color, with a readable text color picked automatically.
- Other People's Message Color
- The color of everyone else's bubbles.
- Mention Color
- The color of @mentions in messages. The default is the Sunflare gradient, which stays the same whatever your accent is, so mentions always stand out.
These change what you see. Other people see messages in their own chosen colors.
Fonts#
Message Font sets the typeface for message text only: Default, Serif, Monospace, Rounded, Comic, Elegant, Condensed, Handwriting, Impact, Typewriter, or Custom to use any font installed on your device.
Font Size sets the message text size, 15px by default.
This is different from your display name font, which other people see.
Customization presets#
Save everything on this page (background, accent, fonts, colors) as a named preset, then switch your whole look in one click.
- Set things up the way you like.
- Click Save Current Look as Preset and give it a name.
- Click a saved preset any time to switch to it.

Keep a "Day" preset (Light, Blue accent, Cozy) and a "Night" preset (Deepspace, Orange accent, Compact, slightly larger font) and swap between them as the light changes.
Startup#
Play login animation plays the logo and sound intro each time Sunflare loads. It plays the first time you sign in, and is off after that unless you turn it on.
Sidebar#
Show DM/Group tabs shows the All / DMs / Groups filter above your Direct Messages list. Saved on this device only.
