The basics#

Is Sunflare free?#

Yes, fully. Servers, channels, messages, voice, video, and screen share are free and unlimited. Cosmos is an optional subscription that adds extras like bigger uploads and higher video quality, and helps pay for running Sunflare.

What can I use it on?#

Any browser at web.sunflare.me, plus apps for Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android. iOS is coming. See Apps and platforms.

How old do I have to be?#

13 or older. Accounts aged 13 to 17 get extra protections automatically.

I'm coming from another chat app. Will it feel familiar?#

Yes. Sunflare has the basics you'd expect: servers, text and voice channels, roles, DMs. It also has things of its own, like poster boards, Broadcast Studio, and Rich Presence that reads any music player. You can import your existing server's structure instead of rebuilding it.

Account#

Can I change my username?#

Yes, in Settings → My Account. Your old one is freed for others to take. See Username and display name.

I forgot my password. What now?#

Click Forgot password? on the login page. If your email is verified, you'll get a code to set a new password. Otherwise, use the Support button there for Account Recovery. See Forgot your password?

Can I use Sunflare on several devices at once?#

Yes. Everything syncs, though you can only be in one voice call at a time.

How do I delete my account?#

Settings → My Account → Delete Account, after deleting any servers you own. It's permanent, and your messages stay as "Deleted User". See Deleting your account.

Servers#

How do I make a channel only some people can see?#

Deny Read Message History for @everyone and allow it for a role. The channel's name stays visible to everyone. See Private channels.

Can I give my server to someone else?#

Yes: Server Settings → Danger Zone → Transfer Ownership, then pick a member and confirm with your password. Only they can give it back. See Danger Zone.

How do I stop notifications for a while?#

Set your status to Do Not Disturb. It silences message notifications on all your devices until you switch back. See Do Not Disturb.

Why can't my friend join my server?#

Check raid protection, the server being age-restricted, a ban, or their server limit. The error they see says which. See Why someone can't join.

How do I stop spam?#

Turn on AutoMod (block invite links, set a mention limit) and raid protection.

Can people tell I deleted a message?#

A deleted message disappears for everyone; it isn't replaced with a notice. Single deletions aren't logged anywhere. A moderator's bulk purge is recorded in the server's audit log (who did it and how many), but not the deleted text.

Voice and video#

Why can't anyone hear me?#

Usually the wrong microphone is picked, the browser was denied permission, or push to talk is on. See Nobody can hear me.

Does push to talk work while I'm in a game?#

No, only while Sunflare's window is focused. Use voice activity, or a global Toggle Mute keybind on desktop. See Keybinds.

What does "connected via us-central" mean?#

Which Sunflare voice region your audio goes through. See "Connected via".

How good can my video be?#

Your camera sends up to 1080p on every plan. Screen share goes up to 1080p30 free, 1440p30 with Cosmos, and 4K60 with Cosmos Pro.

Privacy and safety#

Can people see my email or birthday?#

No. They're never shown to other people, and are hidden in your own Settings until you click Reveal.

Does Sunflare read my messages?#

Uploaded images are checked automatically for child sexual abuse material and explicit content. Reported messages are reviewed by moderators and staff. Usage telemetry never includes message content, and you can opt out of it. See the Privacy Policy for everything else.

How do I stop strangers messaging me?#

Set Direct Messages to Friends Only or Server Members in Privacy, and block anyone who bothers you.

Someone claiming to be staff asked for my password.#

It's a scam. Staff never ask for passwords, 2FA codes, or QR scans, and real staff have a shield badge. Block and report them. See Spotting scams.

Building#

Can I make a bot?#

Yes, once your account is two weeks old and has sent a message. See Writing bots.

Can I change how the app works?#

On desktop, with sandboxed plugins that add buttons, panels, and tools. They can't send messages or act on your behalf.
