Importing a server

Moving a community to Sunflare? The importer copies your existing server's structure (categories, text and voice channels, and roles with their permissions) into a brand-new Sunflare server in one go, so you don't have to rebuild it by hand.

What gets copied#

CopiedNot copied
  • Categories (up to 50)
  • Text and voice channels (up to 500)
  • Announcement channels, as normal text channels
  • Roles, with their color, order, member-list grouping, and permissions where Sunflare has an equivalent (up to 250 roles)
  • Messages and history
  • Members (people join with your new invite)
  • Channel permission overrides (so private channels become public)
  • Emoji, stickers, webhooks
  • Server icon and banner
  • Forum, stage, and media channels
  • The old server's built-in @everyone role, and its bot, integration, or booster roles

Your old server may have more permissions than Sunflare does. The ones with a real match (like Manage Channels, Kick Members, Ban Members, Manage Messages, Connect, Mute Members, Move Members) carry over; the rest (like View Channel, Speak, or Attach Files) have nothing to map to and are dropped. Check your roles afterwards; see Roles and permissions.

Importing, step by step#

You need to be the owner of the server you're copying, and signed in to Sunflare with the account that should own the new server.

  1. In Sunflare, click + on the server rail and choose Import with API. A Transfer Code appears. It's valid for 15 minutes.
  2. Make sure Sunflare's import bot is in the server you want to copy. If you don't have the bot's invite link, ask Support.
  3. In that server, run the slash command with your code:
    /import-to-sunflare code:hk7tm2qa
  4. The bot replies there when it's done, including how many channels it had to skip. The new server appears on your Sunflare rail, owned by you.

After importing#

  1. Review roles. Make sure powerful permissions only landed on roles that should have them, and fix the role order.
  2. Make private channels private again. Channel permission overrides don't carry over, so every channel that was hidden in your old server arrives readable by all members. Set up private channels before inviting anyone.
  3. Add an icon and banner in Server Settings.
  4. Set up rules, AutoMod, and raid protection.
  5. Share your invite with your members. A pinned announcement in your old server with the new link works well.

The imported server counts toward your server limit like any other.
