Using Sunflare
Profiles and status
Your profile is what people see when they click your name: your avatar, banner, name style, pronouns, About Me, status, and badges. This page covers every part of it and who sees what.
- Settings
- My Account
Most of this lives in My Account. Changes aren't saved until you click Save Changes in the bar that appears at the bottom ("Careful, you have unsaved changes"); Reset throws them away. The bar stays visible even if you switch to another settings tab, so you can't lose edits by accident.
Profile picture#
Click Upload Image under your avatar. Without one, Sunflare shows your initials on a colored background. The color comes from your username, so it stays the same everywhere.
Profile picture decoration#
A colored ring around your avatar, shown everywhere it appears.
- Pick one color, or click + Add color for a gradient.
- Choose the ring's shape and thickness (2 to 8 pixels).
Banner#
A wide image across the top of your profile card. Upload Image to set it, Remove to go back to plain.
Names#
- Username
- Your unique @handle. See Username and display name before changing it.
- Display name
- Up to 32 characters, shown instead of your username. Doesn't need to be unique.
- Display name font
- Default, Serif, Monospace, Rounded, Comic, Elegant, Condensed, Handwriting, Impact, or Typewriter. Others see your name in it in messages, member lists, and your profile.
- Display name color
- One color, or several for a gradient. The preview shows how it'll look.
Display name Leo, font Rounded, color a gradient from orange to yellow. In chat, Leo's name stands out in every message without changing his @leo handle.
Per-server nickname and avatar Cosmos#
Open a server's menu and choose Server Profile to set a nickname and avatar used only in that server. DMs, other servers, and your account keep your normal identity. Hovering a nickname in chat shows that it's set for this server.
About Me and pronouns#
- About Me: up to 190 characters on your profile card. Links in it are clickable.
- Pronouns: pick from the list (She / Her, He / Him, They / Them, She / They, He / They, Ze / Hir), choose Other to type your own, or leave it as Prefer not to specify.
Status#
Click your avatar at the bottom left (next to your name) to set your status:
- Online
- Green dot. The default while Sunflare is open.
- Idle
- Yellow dot. "Here, but away from the keyboard."
- Do Not Disturb
- Red dot. Tells people you're busy, and silences message notifications on every device: no sounds, no pop-ups, no phone notifications. Incoming calls still ring.
- Invisible
- You appear offline to everyone, but can use Sunflare normally.
Sunflare also shows whether you're on the web, desktop, or mobile, so friends know whether you're likely to answer quickly. When you close Sunflare on a computer, you show as offline after about a minute. On the phone app it's up to 15 minutes, because phones pause apps in the background and Sunflare doesn't want to flip you offline every time you lock the screen.
Custom status#
In the same menu, type a short custom status (up to 128 characters), like "studying until 9" or "in ranked, will reply later". It shows under your name in member lists and on your profile.
If you also show what you're listening to, Rich Presence can hide the music whenever a custom status is set. Tools can set your custom status for you over OSC.
Your profile card#
Clicking anyone's name opens their profile card. It can show:
- Banner, avatar with decoration, status, display name, username, and pronouns.
- Custom status, and what they're playing, listening to, or streaming.
- Badges (hover one for details): Cosmos, Cosmos Pro, Beta Tester, Kickstarter Backer, Early Supporter, and staff badges. Early Supporter goes to every account created from October 7, 2026 through April 7, 2027, and stays on your profile.
- Their Trust Rank bubble.
- About Me, and when they joined Sunflare.
- Roles, when you open the card inside a server: their roles in that server, highest first, each with its color. Cards opened from DMs don't show roles.
- Connections (like a linked Twitch account) and Friends, unless they've hidden them.
- Buttons to message, call, or add them as a friend.
What other people can see#
You control several parts of your profile in Privacy settings:
- Hide My Activity hides games, music, and Twitch status.
- Hide My Connections hides the Connections section.
- Hide My Friends List hides the Friends section.
Your email and birthday are never shown on your profile.
