Using Sunflare

Servers

A server is a community: its own members, channels, roles, and settings. This page covers finding, joining, creating, organizing, and leaving servers. Running one is covered under Running a server.

The server rail#

The narrow column on the far left of the app is the server rail. From top to bottom:

Direct Messages
The speech bubble at the top. Opens your DMs and group chats.
Your servers
One icon per server, showing its icon or its initials. The server you're looking at has an orange bar beside it, and servers you've muted show a small muted badge. Unread channels are marked inside the server's channel list, and the Inbox collects unreads and mentions from everywhere.
+ (Add a server)
Create a Server, Join a Server, or Import with API (copy an existing server).
Compass
Opens Discover, the list of public servers.

Joining a server#

With an invite#

  1. Get an invite from someone in the server. It looks like invite.sunflare.me/hk7tm2qa, or a custom one like invite.sunflare.me/night-owls.
  2. Open the link, or click + on the rail, choose Join a Server, and paste the link or just the code (hk7tm2qa).
  3. Click Join. The server appears on your rail.

Depending on how the server is set up, joining can involve one more step:

From Discover#

Click the compass at the bottom of the rail to browse Discoverable servers. Anyone can join these directly, no invite needed. Server owners choose whether to be listed; see Who can join.

Creating a server#

  1. Click + on the rail, then Create a Server.
  2. Give it a name (1 to 60 characters). You can change it, and add an icon and banner, later in Server Settings.
  3. You start with two categories, Text Channels and Voice Channels, a #general text channel, and a general voice channel.
  4. Invite people: right-click the server icon and choose Invite People, or open Server Settings → Invites.

You're the server's owner. The owner always has every permission and can't be kicked, banned, or demoted by anyone.

Example: a server for a friend group

Create "Night Owls". Rename #general to #chat, add #clips and #lfg text channels, and a second voice channel chill. Create a role "Regulars" with no special permissions just to color names, and a "Mods" role with Manage Messages and Kick Members. See Channels and Roles and permissions.

Importing an existing server#

+ → Import with API starts an import that copies an existing server's categories, channels, and roles into a new Sunflare server. Full steps in Importing a server.

How many servers you can be in#

PlanServers (joined and owned together)
Free150
Cosmos300
Cosmos Pro300

At the limit, joining or creating another server fails with a message telling you to leave one first.

Organizing your rail with folders#

Drag server icons to reorder them. To group servers into a folder:

  1. Drag one server icon onto the middle of another. They merge into a folder.
  2. Drag more servers onto the folder to add them.
  3. Click the folder to open or close it. Right-click it and choose Edit Folder to name it, color it, and give it an icon.
Example

Drag "Vex Crew" onto "Arcade Club" to make a folder, add "Night Owls" to it, then name it Gaming and color it orange.

The server menu#

Click the server's name at the top of the channel list for the server menu, or right-click its icon on the rail. What you see depends on your permissions:

Invite People
Shows the server's invite link to copy and share.
Server Profile Cosmos
A nickname and avatar used only in this server. Everywhere else keeps your normal name and avatar.
Server Settings Manage Server
Only shown to people with Manage Server (or Administrator). See Server settings.
Add Member Manage Server
Adds someone straight to the server by username, no invite needed. Banned users can't be added.
Copy Server ID
Copies the server's ID, which bots, support, and some tools ask for.
Mute Notifications
Silences this server completely. See Muting.
Sound Settings
Pick a custom notification sound for this server (Cosmos). See Custom sounds.
Leave Server
Removes you from the server.

Leaving a server#

Choose Leave Server from the server menu or the icon's right-click menu. You lose access to its channels right away. Messages you sent stay in the server.
