Using Sunflare
Notifications
Decide what pings you and how: desktop and phone notifications, how much each kind of conversation can notify you, muting, custom sounds, the Inbox, and the emails Sunflare sends.

Desktop notifications#
Turn on Enable Desktop Notifications to get a notification for new messages in channels and DMs you aren't looking at right now. It works the same in a browser tab and in the desktop app. Play a sound adds a sound to each one.
The first time, your browser or operating system asks for permission. Click Allow.
Do Not Disturb#
Set your status to Do Not Disturb (click your avatar at the bottom left) to silence message notifications on every device at once: no sounds, no pop-ups, no in-game toasts, and no phone notifications. Incoming calls still ring. Messages keep arriving as unread, and mentions still collect in the Inbox. Set yourself back to Online to get notifications again.
Studying for an exam: switch to Do Not Disturb for the evening instead of muting each server one by one, then switch back to Online afterwards. Your mutes and levels are untouched.
Notification levels#
Three defaults, one for each kind of conversation:
| Setting | Applies to | Choices |
|---|---|---|
| Servers | Every server channel | Everything, Only Mentions, Nothing |
| Group DMs | Group conversations | Everything, Only Mentions, Nothing |
| Direct Messages | One-on-one conversations | Everything, Only Mentions, Nothing |
- Everything
- Every new message notifies you.
- Only Mentions
- Only messages that @mention you (or use @everyone or @here where allowed). Incoming calls still come through, since someone is trying to reach you directly.
- Nothing
- No notifications at all, calls included. Unread markers and the Inbox still work.
You never get notified about your own messages, or about the channel or DM you already have open.
Servers: Only Mentions. Group DMs: Only Mentions. Direct Messages: Everything. Busy servers stay quiet unless someone needs you, and friends can always reach you.
Muting#
Muting silences one server or conversation completely, whatever your levels say.
- A server: right-click its icon on the rail, or open the server menu, and choose Mute Notifications.
- A DM or group: right-click it in your DM list and choose Mute Notifications.
Muted servers show a small badge on the rail. The same menu item says Unmute Notifications to undo it. Muting lasts until you unmute.
Custom sounds#
Upload your own short sounds under Custom Sounds (they're trimmed automatically), then assign them from a server's or DM's right-click menu with Sound Settings:
| Sound | Where | Plan |
|---|---|---|
| Notification sound | A server or a DM | Cosmos |
| Join sound | A server (plays when people join its voice channels) | Cosmos Pro |
| Ring sound | A DM (plays when they call you) | Cosmos Pro |
Besides your uploads, the menu offers Sunflare's own built-in sounds (Ring, Calling, Connect, Disconnect, and so on). Custom sounds share the same slots as your custom emoji and stickers; see Emoji, stickers, and sounds.
Give your best friend's DM a distinctive notification sound so you know it's them without looking, and set your gaming server's join sound to a short horn so you hear when the squad arrives.
The Inbox#
The tray icon at the top right of the window opens the Inbox:
- Unreads
- Every channel and DM with unread messages, across all your servers, in one list.
- Mentions
- Every message that mentioned you, kept even after you've read the channel. Good for catching up after a day away.
Announcement emails#
Sunflare occasionally emails about new features and updates. Turn Announcement Emails off to stop them. You can also choose this when signing up, and every announcement email has an unsubscribe link at the bottom that works in one click, no sign-in needed.
