Presence and desktop

Rich Presence

Rich Presence shows friends and server members what you're listening to (and optionally watching), with album art, right on your profile and in the member list. It's off by default. Turn it on in the desktop app or the Android app.

This tab appears in the desktop app and the Android app. A web page can't see what else is playing on your device, so it isn't available in the browser.

How it works: Sonar#

Sonar is the part that reads what's playing. It uses your operating system's own "now playing" information, the same thing that powers your media keys and lock screen controls, so it works with Spotify, a browser tab, VLC, and more, without signing in to any music service.

Turning it on#

Desktop#

  1. Open Settings → Rich Presence and turn on Show what I'm listening to.
  2. Sonar isn't installed until you need it, so Sunflare asks before downloading it. Click Download & Enable.
  3. Play something. It shows under Currently showing within a few seconds.

Android#

  1. Turn on Show what I'm listening to.
  2. Android requires Notification access for this. Tap Grant Access, find Sunflare in the system screen that opens, and allow it.

Settings#

Poll Rate
How often Sonar checks what's playing: Fast (2s), Normal (5s), Relaxed (10s), Battery Saver (30s), or Minimal (60s). Each check briefly runs a small system process, so slower rates use less CPU and battery, at the cost of a longer delay before a song change shows up.
Scan everything
Off by default, so only known music services show: Spotify, YouTube Music, Apple Music, SoundCloud, Amazon Music, Tidal, Deezer, and Pandora. Turn it on to also show anything else with a "now playing" session.
Show what I'm watching
Shows "Watching ..." when Hulu, Disney+, or Crunchyroll is playing. Separate from Scan everything, so you can share shows without sharing every browser tab.
Hide music when I have a custom status
If you've set a custom status, others see only that, not your music too. Your own Now Playing widget isn't affected.
Accept OSC input
Desktop only. Lets another program on your computer set what's shown. See Using OSC.
Example

You listen to Spotify and sometimes watch anime on Crunchyroll. Turn on Show what I'm listening to and Show what I'm watching, and leave Scan everything off. Friends see "Listening to Spotify" or "Watching Crunchyroll", and your other tabs stay private.

Linked services#

Connect your Twitch account to show when you're live, with a link to your stream on your profile. This works on every platform, including the browser.

Who sees it, and hiding it#

Friends and people in servers you share see your activity on your profile card and in member lists. To hide it from everyone without turning it off, use Hide My Activity in Privacy settings. You'll still see it yourself.
